Fall Joint Ministerium with Saint Paul Area Synod
November 21 @ 8:00 am - 1:00 pm
Beyond Fear & Division: A Sikh Challenge to the Lutheran Vocation
We live in a time of inter-religious engagement. At the 2019 Fall Joint Ministerium, rostered leaders from the Saint Paul and Minneapolis synods will be challenged to reflect more deeply on these relationships. There will also be an opportunity to consider the ELCA’s recently-adopted Declaration of our Inter-Religious Commitment.
Dr. Rahuldeep Gill, our featured speaker, is an author and educator. His first book, Drinking from Love’s Cup, examined seventeenth century Sikh texts. He is currently translating the poetry of the earliest Sikh scriptures while also writing his memoir. The Los Angeles Times, Patheos.com, Huffington Post, and San Francisco Chronicle have published his writings.
A native of the Boston area, Dr. Gill earned his bachelors, with Honors, from the University of Rochester in New York and doctorate from the University of California in Santa Barbara. He lives in Los Angeles with his family. Dr. Gill served on the task force that drafted A Declaration on Inter-Religious Commitment, which was adopted at the 2019 ELCA Churchwide Assembly.
