Supporting Older Adults in the Midst of Multiple Losses
November 6, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Loss accumulation and loss overload are, regrettably, all too common for many older adults. Even for those who are doing well, they can routinely experience both conspicuous and internal/spiritual losses: death of friends or family members; health adjustments; postponement of long-held dreams because of changes in budgets, safety, or ability
levels; and hard decisions about their future stories.
It is crucial that volunteer and professional helpers be alert to such losses and assist
individuals and families in facing such challenges. Using case studies, examples, and
discussion, participants will explore compassionate caring responses to the multiple losses of older adults.
