Position Title: Faith Formation Director

Organization Name and City: Mindekirken, The Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church, Minneapolis

Brief Position Description and How to Apply: The Norwegian-Lutheran Memorial Church (Mindekirken) is looking for a quarter-time Faith Formation Director to help us grow a multi-age youth program integrating Norwegian culture and Lutheran faith.

Located in the Phillips neighborhood in Minneapolis, Mindekirken is a unique community. We are an ELCA Lutheran church with strong connections to Norway and all things Norwegian. There are two Sunday worship services: a 9:00 a.m. service conducted in English and an 11:00 a.m. service conducted in Norwegian.

The Faith Formation Director will work with a team that includes the pastor and the Faith Formation Committee to expand our programming and outreach to families with children. This position offers an opportunity to provide direction to build current programs, integrate ideas on youth and family programs from both the U.S. and Norway, and work to better integrate children into the services.

The Faith Formation Director’s work will be guided by the Mindekirken mission:
Mindekirken is called to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with all people, empowering service to others. Mindekirken practices its ministry through Norwegian traditions, culture, and language.

Job Tasks
1. Plan and implement children and youth activities throughout the year, including new programs that would be an outreach to families with children;
2. Lead and develop Sunday School program;
3. Conduct outreach to parents and youth, including by email, phone, social media, flyers, and the Communicator;
4. Coordinate with pastor on developing children and youth programming into both 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. services;
5. Work with Faith Formation Committee to develop and implement Job Tasks.

Candidate Experience & Personal Qualities
Credentialed or equivalent experience in youth and family leadership. Excellent organizational and leadership skills. Understanding of community building. Excellent social skills. Ability to take initiative and work with groups to implement a vision.

Familiarity with Norwegian culture and language helpful. Music skills helpful.

This is a salaried quarter-time position (10-hours per week on average) that will include Sunday morning and flexible weekday hours.

This is not a benefits-eligible position. Position is open until filled. Background check required.

Position Title: Church Communications Specialist

Principle Responsibilities
This person will coordinate and produce: publications, the website, electronic communications, serve as the marketing consultant for ministry-specific communications projects, coordinate external media relations and advertising and maintain office supplies. The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
External Communications
• Using MS Office Suite, assembles information, creates layout, proofs for accuracy, and prints the weekly church service bulletin(s) by required deadline
• Creates weekly electronic communication of bulletin
• Updates and ensures accuracy of the church/website calendar and Gathering Space monitor
• Manages and creates content for church social media channels, i.e. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Constant Contact
• Manage weather related information
• Partners with Communications committee — night meeting/month
• Creates, publishes, and distributes the monthly Church Newsletter
• Website management: Word Press
• Complete other marketing projects to include: posters/flyers, special memos, press releases, etc.
• Serves as receptionist for church office providing a welcome and helpful environment for visitors, answers phones, takes messages, and/or refers callers
• Completes and distributes regular and bulk mailing
Internal Communications
• Work with staff and committees to coordinate the monthly council meeting packets
• Facilitate communication with Council, Staff, and Committees

Qualifications • Advanced computer skills using MS Office Suite and internet/social media tools
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written).
• Experience with graphic design
• Basic knowledge of how a church office functions
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and relate to a variety of people
• Degree preferred in Communications or 2+ years of equivalent work experience with similar responsibilities.
• Exhibit professionalism and conscientious a work ethic
• Demonstrated ability to work at a fast pace within a variety of settings and circumstances with composure and flexibility
• Attention to details with a focus on quality products
• Self-starter, good at prioritizing projects and a willingness to seek new information, training, and resources as needed
