Position Title: Nursery Faith Formation Lead Staff

Brief Position Description and How to Apply: We have a growing cohort of children from birth to three years old and are seeking a responsible person to help us organize our nursery as a faith formation ministry. The position is for Sunday mornings, 8:30am until 12:00noon, and consists of two parts.

• During Education Hour (9:00 – 10:00am)

Help shape an age appropriate schedule for the hour; work with volunteers to set up space; Welcome children and parents as they arrive; Using curriculum provided, (Frolic, from Sparkhouse) lead story time and activity time; supervise open play time; provide guidance for volunteers; keep materials and supplies organized; facilitate set-up and clean up of space; make note of repairs or supplies needed; facilitate transition time as children depart.
• During Worship (10:30 – noon)

Encouraged to participate in worship service. Following the Children’s Message, lead small children (roughly between the ages of 1-5) to the Godly Play space for “children’s church.” Supervise children for approximately 20 minutes. During this time, offer a brief prayer; guide children toward appropriate seasonal/theme Godly Play materials. Facilitate “God talk,” helping children to develop a language of faith. If appropriate, tell a bible story. Prepare children to return to worship with their parents, including putting materials back in their places on the shelves. Encouraged to return to worship for prayers and Holy Communion. Before departure for the day, make sure Godly Play room is back in good order.

Qualifications: Interest and experience in working with small children; preferred – interest and experience in faith formation of children birth to three. Reliable and approachable. Good communication skills and organizational skills.

Background check required, at church expense. Pay is $20/hour. Program year runs September through Mid-May, with occasional Sundays off. Summer schedule : 10:00am – noon.
