Job Summary

The Facilities Maintenance/Custodian ensures that the building, sanctuary, and grounds remain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for members and visitors. This multifaceted role ranges from routine custodial tasks and repairs and preventative maintenance.

Core Responsibilities

Exterior & Grounds Maintenance

  • Seasonal Care: Perform snow removal, salt sidewalks in winter, and turn entrance vestibule heaters on/off according to the season.
  • Sanctuary & Specialized Grounds: Maintain the columbarium and repair pews in the sanctuary as needed.

Building Envelope & Infrastructure

  • Interior Repairs: Perform ceiling repairs, patch/paint walls, and repair tables and chairs.
  • Flood Prevention: Assist with water removal in the lower level and elevator areas if flooding occurs.

Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (MEP)

  • Electrical: Repair outlets and light switches; replace light fixtures and batteries in accessible doors.
  • Plumbing: Repair toilets, faucets, and garbage disposals; add salt to water softeners.

Custodial & Sanitation

  • Daily Upkeep: Clean and stock bathrooms with paper products; vacuum carpets and clean windows.
  • Waste Management: Empty trash and recycling bins regularly.
  • Hardware Care: Maintain hardware, floors, and walls in restrooms to ensure sanitary conditions.

Steward

  • Maintain door security during evening activities
  • Welcome small and large groups to building

Set up and take down for evening events and activities

Qualifications

Experience: Previous experience in facility maintenance, custodial work, or a related trade.


Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.


Physical Requirements: Ability to climb ladders, lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs), and work in various weather conditions.


Self-Management: Must be able to work independently and manage a monthly maintenance schedule.
