NYC recently opened the nation’s first official overdose prevention center. This evidence-based harm reduction strategy is used across the world, but still runs afoul of federal law in the United States. Charles King, one of the founders of Housing Works, Inc., a community-based non-profit that provides services including housing, health care, mental health, chemical dependency, legal services, advocacy, job training and employment for the homeless and children living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic conditions.
