SUMMARY:From Nowhere to Now Here
DESCRIPTION:The pandemic\, rampant racism\, unfettered injustices\, environmental degradation\, inflation – these are a few sources of the overwhelming sense of despair in our lives. We are anxious about our future. We desperately seek meaning\, purpose\, justice\, and the common good but they seem to be nowhere in sight. Nowhere. But there is hope and potential for change if we can focus on the here and now. All we are promised is the here and now\, and it is where we are called to live our lives. \nThursday\, September 22\n11:00 a.m.-Noon \nFoss Center\, Hoversten Chapel\nAugsburg University\, Minneapolis  \nDr. Jeremy Myers\, Bernhard M. Christensen Professor of Religion and Vocation at Augsburg University\, will be the keynote speaker. Myers earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Minnesota\, and his Master’s and PhD from Luther Seminary\, St. Paul. He is the author of Liberating Youth from Adolescence\, published by Fortress Press. \n

SUMMARY:Kids and Screen with Erin Walsh
DESCRIPTION:Kids and Screen with Erin Walsh \nParents\, grandparents\, and caregivers of young children are invited to learn how to parent our youngest kids in a world dominated by screens. She promises no screen time guilt\, only evidence and practical\, positive strategies to help kids thrive. This event is co-hosted by Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran in Apple Valley and Easter Lutheran in Eagan. \nCost: $10 (includes continental breakfast and childcare; childcare registration due by October 5) \nSaturday\, October 8\n9:00 – 11:00 a.m.\nShepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church \n12650 Johnny Cake Ridge Road\, Apple Valley \nRegistration: Kids and Screens – Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church (sotv.org)

SUMMARY:White Church Truths
DESCRIPTION:White Church Truths\nNovember 5\, 9:00am – 3:00pm \nWestminster Presbyterian Church\, Minneapolis \nIn order to work for racial justice there are truths that must be faced\, even about the faith practiced in most Minnesota churches. At White Church Truths we will face the truths hidden in white Christian beliefs and open our eyes more clearly to the future – and white Christians’ role in it. \nIn the U.S. today\, an entire religion has developed around the worship of the dominance\, centrality\, privilege\, and assumed universality of being white. Dr. Michael O. Emerson\, author of “Blacks and Whites in Christian America\,” offers a keynote. A response panel includes Felecia Boone\, DEI consultant for Hennepin County; Rev. Kelly Sherman-Conroy (Lakota)\, Native theologian; and Rev. Dr. DeWayne Davis\, Lead Pastor at Plymouth Congregational Church.

SUMMARY:What is Discipleship in the Information Age?
DESCRIPTION:What is Discipleship in the Information Age? \nCertain core principles of faithful discipleship remain constant — such as telling the truth (1 John 2:24) — but the way disciples practice them in the 21st century may look different from how it looked in the 1st. Faith is a main driver of human behavior and so those who teach it bear additional power and responsibility. \nMonday\, December 12; 12:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.\nMinnesota Church Center\n122 West Franklin Avenue\, Minneapolis \nJoin a clergy convening organized by Minnesota Council of Churches and the International Center for Religion and Diplomacy to share what faithful discipleship in the information age means to you. \nFor more information or to register: Peacemakers | Minnesota Council of Churches (mnchurches.org)

SUMMARY:As the Dark Awaits the Dawn: An Evening Vespers Service for the Winter Solstice
DESCRIPTION:As the Dark Awaits the Dawn: An Evening Vespers Service for the Winter Solstice \nOn the longest night\, many of us are yearning for a presence stronger than ourselves to carry our load. Come hold your thoughts\, struggles\, and prayers with us\, and throw your burdens into the fire through a shared burning burdens ceremony. This is worship for all\, Lutherans and non-Lutherans alike\, so please invite any of your loved ones who you think would benefit from this shared space. This vespers service will include ecological\, mystic poetry\, and liturgy; and will contemplate the resurrective power of fire\, as well as the resounding value of being in community during our darkest hours of the year. Tree of Life Lutheran’s Sophia Spiegel and other musicians will be leading us in sung worship and a burning burdens ceremony within the service. \nWednesday\, December 21; 6:30 p.m. \nGrace NE Lutheran Church\n1500 6th Street NE\, Minneapolis \nThis service was brought to you by the Good Shepherd Foundation.
