God of mercy, our hearts are breaking over the police killing of Amir Locke. We say his name and give thanks for his life. Stir up your presence in our community; comfort those who need comfort; discomfort those who need to be discomforted; draw us all into your work of justice. Amen
The wounds of our community are wrenched open yet again with the killing of another Black person at the hands of a police officer. We mourn with Amir Locke’s family and his community.
We pray for all reeling from this re-inflicted trauma and the layers of harm that ripple out from this moment. We pray for the activists and community leaders raising questions and seeking change. We pray for our elected leaders called to courageously work for the reformation of our law enforcement and criminal justice system.
We know there is so much to do, we hear God’s call to participate in this work, and we recommit our lives to the justice God seeks.
We join our words with the statement shared by the leadership of the Minnesota Council of Churches.
