The Minneapolis Area Synod is excited to announce the beginning of our Celebration Series! Sometimes church leaders are obvious: pastors, council members, the regular volunteers, etc. Sometimes our leaders are Lutherans living out their values in their daily lives: their vocation, their community roles, etc. We want to use this year to lift up and honor the many diverse and exceptional leaders in our synod. Follow along with us to celebrate some of the remarkable members of the body of Christ! – Brenda Blackhawk, Congregational Organizer for Racial Justice
We are excited to lift up Felecia Boone as our first leader in our Celebration Series.
See her answers below to learn more about her and her role in our community.
What role(s) do you take on (in the synod and beyond)? What identities are important to you to highlight?
- I am currently the synod vice president and I am also serving as a member of the Inheritance Fund distribution team, I serve as consultant to the synod’s equity lens work. At churchwide, I sit on the Innovation leadership team.
Which, if any, congregation do you belong to?
- Calvary Evangelical Lutheran, Minneapolis
Thinking about the ELCA or the Minneapolis Area Synod, what part of its mission resonates the most with you/your work?
- I work in the area of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and our calling out for healthy and just neighborhoods is important to me and we have seen societally through the past two years that care of the neighbor is more important than ever.
Is there anything else you want to add or emphasize?
- I want this Church to engage in a paradigm shift of who they see as gifted and capable of leading. The church is changing and we have not kept up. We need to figure out how we will remove barriers and lift up leaders that may not look and think like the majority.
“The synod Vice President, Felecia Boone, has been engaged with the Equity Lens work since November 2020. Her support on this project has been a game changer.” – Eric Howard, Executive Assistant to the Bishop
Thank you, Felecia, for all you do!
