Important Notes

  • Check-in at Assembly will be by conference. Please check this list of conferences by city before you come.

    • When you arrive at the main entrance of Lord of Life (Door A), you will see 4 tables for checking in.

In order of left to right, the check-in tables will be for:

    1. Voting Members from 394 Corrdidor North, Bloomington, Central, and Crosstown Conferences (organized by church)
    2. Voting Members from North Minneapolis, Northern, Northwest, and Rum River Conferences (organized by church)
    3. Voting Members from South Minneapolis, Southwest, Western Parks and Lakes, and Western Waters Conference (organized by church)
    4. All non-voting members including visitors, presenters, interpreters, volunteers, etc.
  • Remember to bring a device (smart phone, tablet, or laptop) and charger with you. You are required to have a working device if you wish to vote in the election of a bishop. If you need to borrow a device, please talk with your pastor or conference dean.
  • Resolutions and amendments are due by 8:00 a.m. on Friday and nominations for synod positions are due by 9:00 a.m., on Friday, May 3. If you are nominating someone for a synod position, please make sure you have confirmed with the person that they are open for nomination. See the Proposed Rules of Procedure, adopted by the Synod Council, regarding the rules about last-minute nominations and resolutions.
  • Lord of Life Lutheran Church is fully accessible, including handicapped-accessible restrooms.
  • Snacks and lunch will be provided on Friday. If you indicated that you have special dietary needs, you should have already received an email from Lynda Nordholm.
  • Fruited water, coffee, and tea will be available throughout the day.
  • We will be composting and recycling as much as we can during this event. Join us in this effort by bringing your own reusable water bottle and making sure you’re using the appropriate waste containers while you’re there.
  • Youth Voting Members are invited to join Bishop Svennungsen for a lunch in the Youth Room on Friday. Directions will be given before we break for eating.
  • ASL and Spanish interpreters will be present. Please be respectful of the interpreters and those using interpretation.
  • Display tables will be in the north hallway, beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, 8:00 a.m. on Friday, and 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
  • You can view the recorded Voting Member Orientation anytime. Please note the two important corrections to the information in the video.

Voter Orientation

In 2023, Synod Vice President Felecia Boone and Judge Tammy Pust, 2024 Synod Parliamentarian, hosted a Zoom call designed to train new assembly voters. The training was recorded, and it is so well done that we are simply encouraging voting members this year to watch the video in preparation. …

… with a few caveats.

  1. At approximately the 17:15-minute mark, the video states that the Synod Council withdrew the two-minute time limit for speaking. That was true last year, but for the 2024 Synod Assembly the language was changed to read “each speaker during floor discussion shall be limited to two (2) minutes, with the exception of a presenter needing interpretation into another language; this person would receive an additional two minutes to present.” (See the adopted “Proposed Rules of Procedure.”)
  2. At approximately the 27:20-minute mark, the presenter stated that, in 2023, there was not a bishop election and that Bishop Ann was continuing on as bishop. But, in 2024 there is, in fact, an election for a new bishop. (See the Bishop Election web page for an update related to the election.)

The video includes an ASL interpreter.
